Simon Sturgis, Founder, Targeting Zero LLP

Simon Sturgis is an Architect and founder of Targeting Zero, the Carbon Consultancy. Simon is widely recognised as an expert, an innovator and a lateral thinker in delivering a low carbon, resource efficient, built environment.

He has authored official policy on Embodied and Whole Life Carbon for the RICS, the RIBA and for the Greater London Authority’s new London Plan.

He is leading industry wide task groups to produce firstly ‘Carbon and Net Zero Definitions’ for the built environment industry, to be included in the NZCBS, and secondly to update the RICS Professional Statement on ‘Whole Life Carbon assessment for the built environment -2017’, due mid 2023.

Simon is an advisor to the following on low carbon construction: BEIS, DLUHC, Cabinet Office, Historic England, the World Wildlife Fund, Schroders Real Estate, British Land, Landsec, Grosvenor, Legal & General, Quintain, Warwick University, Gatwick Airport, the UKGBC, and the BCO. He also advises a number of Consultancies and Architectural Practices.

He is chair of the online community, the Whole Life Carbon Network (WLCN), which is working to progress and refine Whole Life Carbon thinking in response to the climate emergency.

He is past chair of the RIBA Sustainable Futures Group, and Stirling Prize sustainability advisor. He has spoken at many international conferences, including Futurebuild, WAF, IGBC and COP24. He is a Special Advisor to the Environmental Audit Select Committee.
