Kat Scott, Sustainability & Regenerative Design Manager, dRMM Architects, Low Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI)
Kat advocates for decarbonisation of the built environment together with a shift towards more regenerative systems.
Kat has been involved in a wide range of built environment advocacy and environmental guidance groups. She sits on the Steering Group of the Low Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI), having volunteered with the group since 2019. Kat was a co-author of the LETI Embodied Carbon Primer (2020) that helped with embodied and whole-life carbon being more widely understood in the UK and wider adoption of LCAs. More recently, Kat has helped to establish LETI’s Circular Economy group, with guidance due to be released later this year. She also supports LETI’s frequent contributions to public consultations, an important part of utilising LETI’s findings to generate change.
As dRMM’s Sustainability & Regenerative Design Manager, Kat develops strategies and conducts research in light of the studio’s ‘Architects Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency’ commitments. At dRMM, Kat is currently leading a research project funded by Built by Nature, ‘Measuring Mass Timber’. She contributes to sustainability and regenerative design innovation on the studio’s design projects in the UK and internationally. dRMM are steadfast advocates of timber construction and are particularly reputed for the design of exemplary mass timber buildings.
Kat is a keen, albeit imperfect, gardener. She enjoys growing food together with embracing a wilder approach to working with nature at home and on her allotment. She has chronic illness and is passionate about greater inclusion in activism and the workplace. She advocates in everything she does for improved access to nature for all and the need to better support nature, together with equitable outcomes for all.
