John McRae, Director, Orms Architects
John is a Director and Trustee at Orms, where he has worked since 1997. He has experience in a variety of sectors including workplace, education, residential, and healthcare. He focuses on creating architecture that is mindful of users’ individual and collective needs, with a special interest in creating environments that enhance users’ wellbeing. Working with the Teenage Cancer Trust, he developed a design blueprint for developments across the UK, including the award-winning Skypad Cardiff. This approach has also been applied to workplace projects such as No 1 Cornhill, Capital One, and MediaCom, as well as education projects such as the new science building at Uppingham School. John is a member of the British Council for Offices and has contributed to various conferences. He also instigated the practice’s THiNK initiative in 2012 to address issues facing the architectural profession.
