Jo Sharples, Director, Architect, Passive House Designer, Editional Studio
Jo set up Editional Studio with Jack Richards in Manchester in 2018, promoting sustainable, considered design to the public in their shop- come-studio space. They won an RIBA research grant resulting in the exhibition and guide for homeowners titled ‘Decarbonise Your House Now! which later featured as part of the AJ’s Climate Champions podcast.
Jo teaches an MArch studio at The University of Sheffield focusing on low impact materials and the re-use of existing buildings. Last year, two of her students won the AJ’s national ‘Student Sustainability Award’. This year the studio research is focusing on natural, low impact material systems in The Peak District and how we might extract and use local materials that restore a balance with nature.
The studio has be profiled as part of The Architecture Foundation’s ‘New Architects 4’, the Architect’s Journals’s ‘40 under 40’ – a who’s who of the nations next generation of boundary-pushing designers and innovators” compiled every 15 years. Jo was recently named as part of RIBAJ’s 2022 cohort of ‘Rising Stars’.
She previously worked for the Stirling Prize winning practice Caruso St John.
