Ben Smith, Director for Energy and Climate Change Consulting, Arup
Ben is an award-winning environmental consultant with twenty years’ experience delivering consultancy commissions for public and private sector clients in the UK, Europe and Australia.
Ben has specialised in low carbon and renewable energy, climate mitigation (emissions reduction), climate resilience and sustainability strategy, spanning research, policy development, strategy and capacity building.
He has worked predominantly for masterplanners, developers and government clients, with a focus over the last decade on cities and local authorities. Ben is Arup’s partnership director for our partnership with C40 Cities, acted as a strategy partner to 100 Resilient Cities over 6 years and supports programmatic work with The World Bank, EBRD and WWF.
Ben was a global judge for the 2019 Climathon, and for WWF’s One Planet Cities Challenge (2019-20) and sits on the UKRI Climate Resilience Steering Group. He was a Founding Trustee of the National Park City Foundation and a Commissioner for the WEF BiodiverCities by 2030 programme.
