“La Ville du quart d’Heure”, a phase formally associated with master planning in 2016 by French-Colombian scientist, and Sorbonne professor, Carlos Moreno to describe a walkable, mixed use urban design. Everything we need within an easy 15 minute reach. The 15 minute city is an ideal geography where most human needs and many desires are located within a distance of 15 minutes (typically by foot). With the decline of high street retail due to the COVID pandemic, the concept of having convenient shopping on our doorstep is an increasing desire. The 15 minute city concept is taking hold in a way that it would not have done pre-pandemic with due to the then growth of out-of-town shopping. In this talk we look at the resurgence of the 15 minute city and how digital and master planning are coming together to reset the retail experience in the wake of a global disaster.
