It is not only the rising cost of energy that demands improvements in the energy performance of our building stock. Given that the majority of buildings that we will have in 2050 already exist, achieving our urgent climate goals means that we must reduce the energy use in these buildings. The first requirement for effective change is to know what is currently happening – how much energy are our buildings using today and the second is deciding what level of improvement can be achieved and what effect it will have.
Research by the UCL Energy Institute and the ‘Energy House’ at the University of Salford will explore these issues and bring research into practice
