Decarbonising structural steelwork – curated by BCSA

Steel is the backbone of modern economies and underpins many industrial sectors, including construction which accounts for more than half of all steel use globally. Steel also has a vital role to play to facilitate the transition to a zero-carbon economy and the industrial and infrastructure revolution that is required to decarbonise the UK by 2050.

Decarbonising structural steelwork requires co-ordinated effort by all parts of the supply chain through a range of supply and demand-side measures. This panel will discuss what the UK structural steelwork sector is doing to decarbonise, the challenges and the opportunities. It will include steel production, design and fabrication efficiencies and circular economy aspects including reusing structural steelwork. It will also cover the role of digital and product provenance in enabling sustainable and circular economic construction solutions.
