This session will focus on how a race to Net Zero will require a wider and deeper understanding about what role nature-based solutions can play in creating low-carbon, healthy and nature-positive approaches to placemaking to ensure our communities are sustainable, equitable and fit for the challenges of the next 10-20 years.
In order to meet the climate emergency and the ecological emergency built environment professionals need to better understand that nature provides opportunities. During this panel, we will talk to design and construction professionals, as well as those engaged in long-term aftercare and stewardship, to illustrate how nature-based solutions (NBS) offer practical and cost-effective solutions to ensure places work for people and wildlife, now and long into the future. Drawing on case studies where NBS have been successfully implemented and are delivering results, attendees will leave with a greater knowledge of how NBS work, what the challenges and barriers to adopting an NBS-led approach to development are, and how to overcome them.
