SmartHTC is an innovative thermal performance rating that delivers accurate and reliable measurements of whole building heat loss (also known as a Heat Transfer Coefficient or HTC). Whereas SAP and EPC assessments make assumptions about the building, SmartHTC uses temperature and energy data to derive an accurate energy performance rating specific to each property.
The HTC takes into account the performance of the whole building and within a single value defines the energy required to make it 1 degree warmer inside than out. HTCs are calculated ‘under the bonnet’ in SAP & RdSAP assessments, and measurement enables direct comparison between predicted and measured performance.
A difference between predicted and measured HTCs is termed a ‘performance gap’. These gaps cause unexpected energy consumption, cost and emissions, and can have unintended consequences such as poor air quality or mould growth.
How to Use SmartHTC
SmartHTC is hosted online and can be accessed through a simple browser interface or by integrating with APIs.
The required inputs are monitored internal temperature and energy consumption over at least 21 days during winter. Energy data can be from smart meters or simple meter readings and the building can be used as normal throughout.
Applications
Stock Management: Better target energy and fuel poverty retrofit spending, get quality assurance on retrofit works and reduced reactive maintenance.
Builders and Manufacturers: Stand out by demonstrating good performance in-situ, take advantage as regulations such as ECO, Building Regulations & PAS2030 shift towards measured outcomes.
Smart Technology: Integrate Smart HTC via APIs to provide added value with tailored performance insights.
Policy Makers and Regulators: Understand the true performance of buildings and assess the impact of policy interventions at scale.
Surveyors and Consultants: A practical and cost-effective measurement tool to offer as an additional service to your customers.
