We welcome the Scottish Government’s announcement that an additional £20m will be allocated to its national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland, as part of a package of measures to support older people through the winter.
Warmworks has been the Managing Agent for the Warmer Homes Scotland scheme since 2015. A new phase of the scheme was launched just over a year ago, in October 2023, and we have seen record levels of demand in that period, with almost 18,000 new referrals received from Home Energy Scotland in the last twelve months. This additional funding means we can now deal with more of that demand and help more homes and families far sooner than they might have expected.
The news represents an important vote of confidence in our customer-focused, values-driven delivery. The funding will also help to protect jobs and apprenticeships in our supply chain of registered, local installers and it will provide a vital lifeline to thousands of homes and families across Scotland over the winter period.
