Dr Niamh Murtagh, Principal Research Fellow, Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, UCL
Dr Niamh Murtagh is Principal Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, University College London (UCL), and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Turku, Finland, and the Centre for Understanding Sustainable Prosperity at the University of Surrey. An environmental psychologist by discipline, Niamh’s focus has been on applying insights from psychology to understand the people who can deliver a sustainable built environment. Her research has investigated the psychological underpinnings of pro-environmental behaviour change in construction professionals including small builders, architects, building control officers and town planners. A current interest is on how individuals’ actions can make the built environment more effective at protecting people from the changing climate. Niamh has published widely in academic journals and is co-editor of an upcoming book on behaviour change (Gatersleben, B. and Murtagh, N. (Eds) Research Handbook on Pro-Environmental Behaviour Change, Edward Elgar Publishers, due for release in Autumn 2023).
