Jae Cotterell was the architect for one of the first three certified retrofit houses to the full Passivhaus standard in the UK, winning the Passivhaus Trust Award for best private house in 2013. Since 2012, and with a contractor partner, they have developed a component-based system called PH15 that can reliably, and cost effectively, achieve the Passivhaus ‘fabric first’ standard. PH15 showcases the best of contemporary timber products and construction methods, including flexible MMC. The system includes essential services such as energy modelling, mitigation of overheating risk, and upskilling training for the erection team. Passivhaus Homes & PH15 won the prestigious ASHDEN AWARDS in 2020 for scaleable climate change solutions. Jae is co-author of The Passivhaus Handbook, a practical guide to designing for ultra-low-energy efficiency.
