PENNY GOWLER

Director and Head of Sustainability, Elliott Wood

Penny is a structural engineer with over 15 years’ experience in the design of buildings with a particular strength in projects that repurpose existing buildings and have a positive social impact.

Penny is passionate about sustainable design within the built environment and is working hard to help shift the industry to a more circular model where we reuse materials already available within the existing building stock and consider end of life treatment of materials in our building designs.

She co-authored Elliott Wood’s ‘Full Circle to Reuse’ guide which suggests 12 practical steps to reuse including how to undertake reuse potential assessments.

To this end she is actively involved with the Institution of Structural Engineers as a member of their Climate Emergency Task Group. She also actively partakes in working groups focusing on the Circular Economy and reuse with UKGBC and LETI.
